Tuesdays Route 3/13: Lights required. (you can always buy them before the ride!)

The fast group will do a slightly shorter version of this route: http://www.mapmyride.com/s/routes/view/road-cycling-map/kentucky/newport/48626400

The medium group will turn around at the Ryland Heights school.

I ride my bike on Route 8 and and try to use less traveled roads from cresent springs to ky20 to ky 18. You don't have many safe places to ride in NKY. People don't seem to know the laws of sharing the road. Its really bad when a car or worse a semi-truck passes you and is only a foot from taking you out. I think signs posted about the 3 foot passing law might help educate drivers.Plus more bike lanes.

I share the road with autos a lot and although I don't usually feel unsafe, there are areas that are worse than others. I live in Taylor Mill KY and ride to Lunken Airport regularly. The stretch thru Newport east on 11th and down Monmouth are scary at times. There are parts of Covington that are a little sketchy as well. It’s been a while since I had a driver treat me badly, but I do everything I can to be seen from wearing chartreuse jerseys to blinking lights all over my bike, even in daylight. More bike lanes would be helpful.
